How does professional kitesurfer Stijn Mul take care of his body?

Today, we had a conversation with Stijn Mul (23) about how he cares for his body. Stijn is a professional kitesurfer and therefore always travels chasing the wind. His passion is to go abroad with his friends and girlfriend. He prefers to engage in sports, such as surfing, paddling, kitesurfing, and exploring new places every day of his life, and he manages to do so. Stijn is able to combine his passion and work by participating in kitesurfing competitions and being sponsored by the kite brand Cabrinha. Additionally, Stijn also has his own business, SpaceX Kitesurfing, where he organizes kitesurfing events for both amateurs and professionals.

Stijn told us that he is most proud of becoming the Dutch champion and being able to earn money with his hobby. His main goal is to build his own brand as an influencer, so he can inspire others to pursue their dreams. Stijn is a member of The HAB Club. Together, we inspire each other to bring out the best in ourselves, from head to toe.

Lifestyle

"In order to fulfill my dreams, I adhere to the lifestyle of The HAB. I consciously handle nutrition and exercise. Taking good care of yourself is an absolute must! For me, a healthy lifestyle involves regular physical activity, going to bed on time, and waking up early to work and pursue my dreams.
What I find especially important is having strength and muscles. This enables me to do the things I love. I feel healthy, fit, and better when I take good care of myself. I regularly exercise at the gym, but sometimes I don't feel like going there. Then, I look for alternatives that I can enjoy, such as paddling and kitesurfing with my friends.
Once, during an intense kitesurfing crash in a competition, I fell from a height of 10 meters into shallow water. I could have broken my neck or back, but fortunately I got away with it thanks to maintaining my body well. My body was able to absorb the impact."

Nutrition

"When I'm fit, I feel better, which eliminates one stress factor already. This allows me to put my energy into other aspects of my life, such as work and my relationship with my girlfriend. Sometimes, if I can't exercise for a few days, I get a bit annoyed with myself, not only because I didn't exercise, but also because other things take longer, leaving me no time for myself. When I have little time to exercise, I pay extra attention to my nutrition. I remind myself to eat plenty of vegetables and fruits and not to snack too much. Occasionally having an alcoholic drink is something I don't necessarily refuse if it makes me happy at that moment. For me, taking good care of myself also means being happy with myself and my lifestyle.”

Mental health

"I have a few things in my life that make me feel mentally strong. When I work hard in my own business and certain projects go exactly as I hoped, it gives me strength and motivation to continue.
Also, it gives me confidence when I look in the mirror and am proud of how my body looks. I take pictures of my body for myself, to see my progress and keep motivating myself. Like The HAB, Stijn believes in drawing strength from self-care that leads to self-confidence.
I can focus well to work hard and be successful. My advice is to set goals for yourself that you want to achieve within a year. Be patient. Success in achieving your goals doesn't come automatically. You are the one who makes yourself feel successful in achieving your goals."
